Mounted at a 90 deg (12:00) position, it allows you to add an Aimpoint ACRO or Steiner MPS as a close-range optic alongside your magnified scope. The ACRO or MPS can also be zeroed for use with subsonic cartridges like the 300 AAC blackout, while your magnified optic remains dedicated to supersonic ammunition.
